With reference to Your Lordship's

Confidential Despatch of the 1st. ultimo, and to previous

correspondence respecting the case of Liang Tou an

inhabitant of the New Territories who escaped to China

after committing murder within British Jurisdiction,

I

have the honour to inform Your Lordship that I am now in

receipt of a Despatch from the Consul-General at Canton

stating that Liang Tou has been sentenced by the Chinese

Authorities to 10 years imprisonment and 20 years sub-

-sequent detention under hard labour.
